Who wouldn't want to live there. The Somerville sisters are busy planning their parents wedding, renewal vows during this holiday season. • 5.0 out of 5 stars from Lynda Abbott -- Welcome to a close and caring community -- Wishing Tree : Susan Mallery is a master in spinning tales about communities that we wish we could live in. Wishing Tree is the third in her series of close-knit and cozy towns whose residents meet and greet and exhibit sweet and deeply felt caring for one another. What sets her books apart, especially, is the author's gift for realistic and witty and humorous dialogue -- which usually offers an internal glimpse at how the main characters' fears and insecurities can sometimes scare them away from the love and closeness they really want. (And, of course, that's true of most of us, her readers, too!) If you just read the description on the back jacket, you might think that the story described is simple or soap-opera like, and you'll miss out if you dismiss it lightly. Instead, Susan Mallery's are individual and very human characters who interact with one another in real and quirkily authentic ways -- which makes it all the more satisfying when they finally realize that what they want is to take the chance, reach out, and connect with each other. The HEA's are well earned. [I don't read a lot of romances, and I didn't know what other reviewers meant by HEA's -- but I finally got it! Happily Ever After. Susan Mallery specializes in HEA's -- and hers are really satisfying because they're well grounded in the story she's spun and the characters we've come to know and like. If you like Wishing Tree, read her other series of novels about the people in two other special communities (Fool's Gold and Happily, Inc.) These novels -- about wonderful people in very close and caring communities -- have quite honestly gotten me through the COVID-19 year and a half without medication for anxiety and depression. • 5.0 out of 5 stars from Amazon Customer -- Exceptional Start for a New Series : From start to finish, I loved Dena, her sister Reggie and their story. Reggie has returned to town to help with their parents renewal of vows wedding. Dena teaches school, runs a B&B and is newly pregnant by choice as a single mom after failing to find someone special to marry. Dena helps a widowed songwriter staying at her B&B enjoy the joy of the holiday in their town of Wishing Tree, while Reggie resists the attraction she still has for Toby, her high-school love and his son Harrison. I thought the main story was going to be about the wedding of Reggie and Dena's parents, but it was so much more. Reggie and Dena are sisters who are successful, independent young women whose parents still love each other and want to have the big wedding they never had. The town of Wishing Tree is a close knit community and holiday-centric. The characters are wonderful, the town is great. I laughed, I cried and I am so glad there will be more to come. It was love happily after all in the family for siblings Reggie and Dena. Reggie has returned to Wishing Tree to help her parents plan their wedding to renew their vows. Her sister Dena runs the B&B she inherited from her grandmother as well as teaching 3rd grade. Dena has a very special guest at the B&B who changes her life forever. In both, one party has the courage to fight for love. : A lot is happening in this tale, almost 3 love stories. One a celebration of love that has survived the test of time, one a second chance, where Reggie has the courage to fight, while Toby is driven away by fear and guilt. Throw in a grandma, mix and we have the first happy ending emerging. Dena gave up on love, and feels unlovable, but Micah fights for it, despite the damage from a vengeful ex, pulls Dena into their happy ending. The goofy dogs just add humor! The wedding in the title of the book is to celebrate the vow renewal of the girls' parents. These characters are well written with strong personalities. A thoroughly enjoyable book! This first in the Wishing Tree series is a great start. As always, there is a nice mix of likable characters - young and old - and a few more waiting in the wings for their stories.
